Is a doubleton a bad lead? by linda j green

This is a frequently asked question. Of course it depends on the circumstances. A doubleton lead is blind and far worse than a pointless singleton. The doubleton lead is made for one of three purposes:
a. To hope and get a 3rd round ruff.
b. To avoid other embarrassing leads whereby you cannot lead from a hand that has all the remaining high card points expecting partner to have zero points.
c. The opponents have bid 3 suits looking for a No Trump contract.

* 18-19 HCP - A free bid after partner shows 6 HCP you promise a strong hand at that level

 Your choice:
A: Q. As partner bid the club suit it is mandatory to lead partner's suit. Top of a doubleton, even though it is Queen doubleton. When we overcall it is usually for a lead promising a 6-card with 2 honors or a 5-card suit with 3 honors.
