 "Chocolate Day" by Marti Ronemus

It is with HUGE disappointment, frustration and may I say, ANGER, that I announce today is "Chocolate Day." Day? Just Day? What are they thinking. The LEAST it should be is Chocolate MONTH. My vote would be for Chocolate Decade or even Century. Sheesh. That something so glorious and life-affirming should only be given a day...
Well, that means we have to cram as much enjoyment and pleasure into today that we can possibly fit into it. Which means bridge. LOTS of bridge.
(Today is also "Pina Colada Day," which helps a little. But not much.)
Get your chocolate bar and your drink and let's get going.

 Q 7 5 3

Q: 1 - South?

1 No-trumpPass3Pass
?

 Your choice:
A: 4: Pard's showing 16-18 pts with a six-card suit. It's a given we're going to game. Some would have chosen a two-level response with this hand rather than 1 No-trump, so we're delighted to have a chance to bid again. A case can also be made for bidding 3 No-trump as our rebid, but Pard has shown what might be a VERY distributional hand. If you voted for 4, have some chocolate.

 J 10 9 3 2

Q: 2 - South?:
SouthWestNorthEast

?

 Your choice:
A: Double: Since we are already a passed hand, Pard will know we have no more than 11 pts. This is our only chance to show we hold at least four cards in the other two suits. Were we to overcall them, we would be promising five. This way we get a two-for-one bid.

 Your choice:
A: Pass: With distribution points we've maybe got enough to squeeze out a 3 bid, but we have nothing extra. Let's just quietly pass.

 Your choice:
A: Pass: In this instance, our pass is super-descriptive and worthy of a chocolate reward. Pard will know we have a Spade doubleton (or less) and nothing else to really say. Some would bid 3, but we don't think the hand is strong enough. Let's tell Pard our story and leave it to him.

 Your choice:
A: 3: We're now the Pard from last hand. Pard opened the bidding and we've got 10 HCP plus a six-card suit. We need to bid one more time. Let's show our six-card suit and 10-12 pts.

Okay. Wipe the chocolate off your hands and let's play our hand.
