Menu Vu-Bridge | Play like a Champion!

 "Disney No-No's" by Marti Ronemus

Admit it. You too are a sucker for a great Disney or Pixar movie. Show me someone who could resist "Toy Story" or "Up" and I'll show you a soul-less curmudgeon. Did you know, however, that there are three forbidden sequences in Disney movies? Impalement, beheading, and smoking. There's one memorable exception. Remember the scene in "Pinocchio" where our hero steals and smokes a cigar? He gets VERY sick, so it was left in as an object lesson.

In bridge we have sequences that are better forbidden, and you can be glad we at Vu-Bridge are with you to help avoid those messes. Let's give some a try.

Q: 1 - South:

 Your choice:
A: Pass: To continue to bid would result in a very un-Disney-like decapitation. Our honors could not be more poorly placed, with LHO (left hand opponent) holding both Hearts and Diamonds. Ouch!!

Question 2

  Your Hand
 A Q 9 8 7
 A J 4 3 2
 K 8
 5

Q: 2 - South:
SouthWestNorthEast
122Pass
?

 Your choice:
A: Pass: Are we planning to throw our Hearts on the floor? Eat them? If we (erroneously) are planning to ruff them in dummy, consider that East is short in Hearts also and will be ruffing AFTER the dummy. Bidding Diamonds would be forcing and we need to show some restraint.

 A 5

Q: 3 - South:

?

 Your choice:
A: 2: Michaels, promising five Spades and five of an un-named minor. It is forcing and while Pard won't know immediately if we have Big Michaels or Little Michaels but he'll find out soon, won't he! If we didn't play Michaels, we would begin with the Big Hand Double, so give yourself credit for that bid also.

 Your choice:
A: 2: We've got trump agreement, but it's in a minor. Our introduction of a new suit SHOWS a stopper, and asks Pard if this helps, would he please bid No-trump. If he doesn't have a Heart stopper, he can return to Clubs.

 Your choice:
A: 2 No-trump: Pard's Negative Double promises 8-plus pts, and four Hearts. If we bid 1 No-trump, it just wouldn't be enough. We need to show our intermediate hand and invite Pard.

And now, having escaped impalement and beheading, let's give our hand a try.
