"Who Do You Trust?" by Marti Ronemus

Number five on the list of most trusted jobs is -- DOG WALKERS! When you think about it, it makes sense. We doggie parents trust our most precious possession, our dogs, plus the keys to our house to these people. That indeed requires a high level of trust.

Also, think how skilled they must be. When I walk my two little dogs, I often feel like I'm trying to fly two kites at once. Watch a dog walker, managing a half-dozen assorted dogs, picking up poop, keeping them focused and friendly to each other. Wow.

And surprisingly, it can be a lucrative full-time job in a big city. One dog walker told how he supports a family of four, put his wife through grad school and bought a house... walking dogs!

And now, let's see if Pard can trust us.

Q: 1 - South:

?

 Your choice:
A: 2 No-trump: Speaking of Who Do You Trust... Pard's balancing bid of 1 No-trump promised a stopper in Spades, but only 12-14 pts. In balancing seat, we "steal" a King from Pard's hand. That means we need to subtract 3 pts from our own hand. Thusly our bid is 2 No-trump.

Question 2

 9 5 4 3
 8 7
 6 5 4 3 2

Q: 2 - South:
SouthWestNorthEast
--2Pass
2Pass2Pass
?

 Your choice:
A: 4: When Pard opens 2 and then rebids a suit, it is a game force auction. You gotta trust him. Pass is not an option. With an actual fit, like we have here, we're going to jump to game. That signifies we have a fit and zero interest in going further. Anything else is up to Pard. We've warned him.

 A J 9 8 7

Q: 3 - South:
SouthWestNorthEast
--2Pass
2Pass2Pass
?

 Your choice:
A: 3 is our bid on this hand. We want to tell Pard we've got some "stuff" for him. When Pard opens 2 and we hold and Ace, we usually choose a positive response. As we saw last hand, a jump to game shows no interest. The lower bid gives Pard room to explore.

 A K 10 8 7
 J 7

Q: 4 - South:

 Your choice:
A: 3: Pard is as yet unlimited. He is trusting us to choose one of the unbid suits, giving preference to the major. He also needs to know our point count. We show 16-18 with our 3 rebid. Now it's HIS problem!

 Your choice:
A: 2: This time, our 2 bid shows a minimum opener, thusly limiting our hand. Pard can now reliably do the math!
