 "Subversive Messages" by Marti Ronemus

Conspiracy theorists are gonna love this one! The internet has spawned controversy about the secret, subversive messages in the design on Oreo cookies. This is NOT a joke! There are websites devoted to decoding the top of the Oreos, which apparently act as a sort-of Rorschach test for those of us who are a little less tightly wrapped than the average person. Why are there 90 ridges around the edge of the cookie? Are those designs REALLY patterned after the Knights Templar? Secret Masonic messages?

William Turner was a product engineer who in 1952 was charged with the assignment of updating the original 1912 design. He denied all accusations, saying they were just designs that fit and were cheerful, just like his design for Milkbone Dog Biscuits.

BUT!! Do we believe him? Are Oreos REALLY as innocent as they appear? Or....

And what about our bids? What secret, subversive messages are THEY carrying? Let's find out.

Question 1

 K Q 9 2
 A 4 3
 6 5 4 3
 5 4

Q: 1 - South:
SouthWestNorthEast
--11
?

 Your choice:
A: Double: Our friend the Negative Double can show we have exactly four Spades. With five, we'd overcall. "But, but," we hear you whimpering. "I thought I had to have BOTH the unbid suits." And that's true, UNLESS we have support for Pard's original suit. Should Pard respond 2, we'll correct to Diamonds and Pard will know our subversive message.

Question 2

 Q J 9 8 7
 2
 3 2

Q: 2 - South:
SouthWestNorthEast
---1
?

 Your choice:
A: 2: Perfect for a Michaels Cuebid. We've got 5-5 in the majors, exactly what we're promising, and a "mini Michaels" point count. Which ever suit Pard chooses, we'll then Pass. With "maxi Michaels," we'd continue bidding. Pard should play us for mini, less than 10-11ish pts, until/unless he hears from us again.

Q: 3 - South:

 Your choice:
A: 2 No-trump: This is the Unusual No-trump, where we promise 5-5 in the two LOWER unbid suits. The Unusual No-trump can never show Spades. How will Pard know we don't have a gigantic hand? Silly question. If we had a gigantic hand, we'd begin with a Double.

Q: 4 - South:

 Your choice:
A: 2: Another Michaels Cuebid, showing five of the other major, and an as-yet-unnamed minor. If Pard cannot tolerate our major and has support for BOTH minors, he can ask us which we like by bidding 2 No-trump. We'd then show Diamonds.
