"God Bless You!" by Marti Ronemus

Ahhh-CHOO! The sound of a sneeze is oh so prevalent during January, isn't it? BUT!! Wait till you hear this!

The common sneeze takes less than 2/3 of a second. During that minute speck of time, over 5000 droplets of... oh well, never mind what ... are projected at up to 100 MPH. They can reach a distance of 30 feet and are suspended in the air up to 10 minutes!

For heaven's sake, cover your face! A sneeze is a menace.

And to answer another of life's burning questions, we can't keep our eyes open when we sneeze because eye muscles are part of the sneeze action.

And now, with hankies at hand, we tackle some of life's burning bidding questions.

Q: 1 - South:

 Your choice:
A: 3: We have a wretched hand, but as members of the Clint Eastwood School of Bidding, we don't let that stop us! Raising Pard's suit in a competitive auction is the weakest response we can give, and shows the number of trumps we hold... nine trumps means we can bid at the three-level.

Q: 2 - South:

 Your choice:
A: 4: Were we paying attention to the last question? We have a ten-card fit and we're going to bid to the max! Do we expect to make it? Maybe not, but the Law of Total Tricks will protect us. So pick up that Kleenex, and sneeze with safety.

Question 3

 A 10 8 4
 K 4 3 2

Q: 3 - South:
SouthWestNorthEast
-11Pass
?

 Your choice:
A: 2: If raising Pard's suit is a sign of weakness, what can we do to show strength? Cuebid the opponent's suit. That promises a fit and at least 10 pts. It is forcing. When we know more about Pard's hand, we'll know what to do. Pard can have anywhere between 7 and 17-ish points and he'll tell us more.

Question 4

Q: 4 - South:
SouthWestNorthEast

1Pass2Pass
?

 Your choice:
A: 2: Pard's cuebid of the opponent's suit promises us he has trump support and at least 10 pts. He wants to know where on the spectrum of 7 to 17-ish pts. we are. We have a decidedly minimum overcall, and we tell him with our decidedly minimum response to the cuebid. Now Pard knows we've got less than 11 pts. It's his problem.

Q: 5 - South:

 Your choice:
A: 3: This time we're telling Pard we've got 12-14-ish pts. He'll know what to do now. With 15-17 pts., we'd go directly to game.

And it's time for our hand. Quick! Before we catch a cold.
