"Oh Yes We Can!" by Marti Ronemus

Can we possibly consume 3800 calories in ONE sandwich? Is such a thing within the realm of sanity? Yes and no. Here's the sandwich -- it's called a Fluffernutter. Take a big hunk of egg-loaded bread. Fill it (and we mean FILL it!) with marshmallow cream and peanut butter. Add as much bacon as can be squashed into it. That's right -- pack it in there! Soak it in egg wash and deep fry it. Not GRILL it, but DEEP FRY it. Then serve it with hot Nutella to dip it in.

The state legislature of Massachusetts debated for two weeks in 2006 whether or not to make this the State sandwich. The motion passed.

Just because something is possible doesn't mean we should do it. Although, admit it. The temptation is there.

Q: 1 - South?

?

 Your choice:
A: 4: We have a choice here. It's very tempting with our spectacular hand holding two of their key honors in their suit to double for penalty, but we need too many tricks to gain a positive score of 500. Pard is likely to be a Crummy Dummy since he preempted. Let's settle for what we know we can make.

**Michaels cuebid, 5-5 in the majors

 Your choice:
A: 2 No-trump: Let's think this through. We've got one Spade trick, six clubs and assorted waiting Hearts. Pard doesn't rate to be broke so he should be able to contribute one trick, don't you think? Let's show our stoppers and VERY nice hand and await further developments.

 Your choice:
A: 3 No-trump: Pard's 1 No-trump response to our Double shows 6-9 ish pts and a Club stopper. Just what we need. We can see nine tricks and can't possibly give up now. The sandwich smells just too darn good to pass up.

 Your choice:
A: 3 No-trump: Easy as pie, you say? You're right. However, often people forget, "No shortness, no Stayman." Your hand has no ruffing value whatsoever, so put your Pard in a contract where he only needs nine tricks.

**Shows 15-17, suggests stoppers in unbid suits

 Your choice:
A: 6: Why would you ask Pard for aces? He's got 15-17 pts. You sure don't want to be in No-trump either. Pard's stopper might be a deep one.

Well, that was a lot of work and we still have our hand to play. The good news is that there's a sandwich waiting as a reward.
