"The Perfect Murder" by Marti Ronemus

SO! Your bridge partner passed your Take-Out Double one time too many, and you think you've committed the perfect murder. The only witness probably didn't get that good a look at you, and you made sure the cameras didn't get a full-face shot of you. You have a fairly good alibi. You've gotten rid of the murder weapon. You think you're safe.

WRONG! There's a "forensic artist" on the job. Also called a "sketch artist," these skilled people work miracles. That witness, as we speak, is helping create a masterpiece that sadly will identify you. The artist draws details from the witness, using certain triggers. "What could you smell at the time?" Turns out recalling smell recalls visual details also. "What did his teeth look like?" A very definitive clue. By combining all that with the partial surveillance camera details, you are as good as captured. (Interestingly, ears are the hardest to describe and draw.)

The moral of the story? Be aware of visualization! It'll get you every time. Doubly true as bridge players. Our bids give our partners the details they, as "forensic artists" need to place the cards. Let's help Pard draw some details about our hand.

 Your choice:
A: 3: What, you say? You still play STRONG Jump Shifts? If so, you need to pass with this hand. BUT!! We encourage you to turn your hand from a pile of puppy chow into a trick-taker. The WJS (Weak Jump Shift) tells Pard your hand is a Crummy Dummy UNLESS you get to name the trump suit. You're promising a six-card suit and an otherwise worthless hand. In Diamonds, you've got a lot to offer.

 Your choice:
A: 2: A new suit by an unpassed Advancer is forcing for one round, and that makes us a little slow to make this bid. BUT! We've got so much shape and a lot to offer in either suit. Pard may only have 7 pts, and we may end nose down in the dirt, but you've got Pard at your back. Otherwise we have to pass.

A: 1 No-trump: Nothing special here. We're showing 6-9ish points and stopper(s) in Their suit. We're also suggesting stoppers in the unbid suits, and our Pard will be delighted to see we have what we promised. The drawing is complete.

A: 1: At the one-level, we can just squeeze out a bid. We are forcing our Pard to bid again. If he's got a nice hand? Who knows where we might end up.

And now, let's share an interesting hand with our wonderful Pard, who can draw all sorts of conclusions.
