Opener Rebids "Send the Kids to Camp" by Marti Ronemus

It's 1913 and the Parcel Post Service has just begun. A few visionary parents, spotting a bargain, began mailing their kids. For just fifteen cents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Beauge sent their son to his grandparents. The five-year-old daughter daughter of J.W. Savis was sent 73 miles to granny's house for only 53 cents instead of the $1.55 by train.

Before outrage sets in... Were they taped in boxes with holes in the top? No. The appropriate number of stamps were affixed to their clothing, along with an address tag, and off the kiddies went, accompanied by postal workers who escorted them to their destinations. Sort of like putting them on a plane today, accompanied by flight attendants?

You can ponder all this later. For now, let's look at rebids by opener.

 Your choice:
A: 3: Our hand reevaluates to 17 pts in favor of Spades. That's an invitational bid. If Pard only has 6 pts, we sure don't want to be in game. Let's ask Pard to make the decision. We're not sure if we've got enough stamps.

Q: 2 - South:

 Your choice:
A: 4: There are those who might disagree, but we want to sent this kid to granny's. We have so much going for us, including the ninth trump and the wonderful holdings in the minors. If you only bid 3, give yourself some credit too.

A: 3: Let's not go crazy here. This hand is gorgeous, but has its share of losers, too. Again, we think invitational is just the right amount of postage.

 Your choice:
A: 4: Pard's cuebid of the opponent's suit says "I've got a fit with you. I've also got 10-plus pts." This bid is forcing, and what can we possibly do but go for game.

 Your choice:
A: 3: Again, Pard's cuebid of the opponent's suit says "I've got a fit with you. I've also got 10-plus pts." This bid still is forcing, but we've got an ugly shape. If Pard has a bare 10 pts., we could have a problem. Let's make it HIS problem!

And now, pick up that stamp book and let's head for our hand.
