Respond Doubles "What's on YOUR Bucket List?" by Marti Ronemus

102-year-old Carol Aimsworth has survived 18 presidential elections and seen events over more than a century. She only had one item left on her bucket list: to be arrested and ride in the back of a police cruiser. No swimming with the dolphins for THIS babe!

The St. Louis Police Department and the Five Star Senior Center teamed up to make her dream come true. The experience was a hit. The excited Carol, at one point, asked "Do you think you could put those cuffs on me?"

As one who has worked hard to avoid arrest, I'm not sure I get it, but hey, you go, girl!!

And today we will try to stay on the right side of the law by responding to Pard's double of a Preempt. Some ideas? Keep in mind Pard has a solid opener... after all, he's forcing us to bid pretty high. He also has the right distribution. Our bid should be as high as we can go opposite an opener.

A: 3: We've got 8 pts, but our Q is very badly placed. We're going to bid our major of course, happily bypassing the Diamonds. This one is easy.

Question 3

 A Q 4 3
 Q 9 6
 7 2

Q: 3 - South:
SouthWestNorthEast
-3DblPass
?

 Your choice:
A: 4: Once again, we know we have game. But where? It is possible Pard is 4-3 in the majors, and if we pick the wrong one, we may well end up in a holding cell. By cuebidding the opponent's suit, we are announcing to Pard that we've got game, and for him to name the suit. "I've got the money, you pick the restaurant."

Question 4

 A Q 9 4 3
 K 9 7 6

Q: 4 - South:
SouthWestNorthEast
-3DblPass
?

 Your choice:
A: 4: Yeah, yeah. We've only got 9 HCP, but look at the quality of this hand. We've got that singleton in their suit. We've got a five-card major. All our honors are nicely placed. If we can't squeeze game out of this, we deserve a (brief) jail visit.

 A Q 9
 K 10 9
 K 10 8 4

Q: 5 - South:

?

 Your choice:
A: 3 No-trump: Game points, no suit, stoppers in their suit. The penal code is very clear on this: Do the right thing and go to game in No-trump.

Can we play a hand without breaking the law? Let's see.
