"There's Hope Ahead" Unusual No-trump by Marti Ronemus

Mosquitoes are even worse than we thought. In addition to what we've been reading in the news lately, they caused 214 million NEW cases of Malaria in 2017. Wow.

BUT!! There's hope ahead. The "Malaria Journal" (heady reading, I assure you) recently reported that mosquitoes don't like chickens. The scientists are still trying to zero in on just what it is they don't like... feathers? smell? clucking?... but meantime, we need to take advantage of that knowledge.

Surely there's room on your patio, deck, garage, for a few chickens to keep away those mosquitoes. And think of the side benefits... fresh eggs! Early morning alarm service for the neighborhood!

But before you head out to the hardware store for that chicken wire, let's complete our two-suited hand adventures we started with our exploration of Michaels. We're going to look at the Unusual No-trump. When we JUMP in No-trump (with some exceptions), we are telling Pard we are 5-5 in the TWO LOWEST UNBID SUITS. Can we possibly be showing a giant hand? No. If we had 18-plus points we would have doubled first.

This is a very simple bid. Let's practice.

Question 1

 Q 9 8 6 5
 K Q J 4 3

Q: 1 - South:

?

 Your choice:
A: 2 No-trump: Perfect. Just like Michaels (remember last week?), our point count is Mini or Maxi. We don't have much in the way of points, but boy oh boy do we have shape. Yes, we are pushing Pard to the three-level, but we have ten cards in two suits.

 Your choice:
A: 2 No-trump: Again, 2 No-trump. Now, we need to talk. Normally, a bid of 2 No-trump over a preempt says, "I have a 1 No-trump opener and stoppers in their suit." BUT!! We cannot have that. We initially passed. See the difference
