Takeout doubles (2/3) by Matthias Huberschwiller

In the previous bidding quiz, we saw the principles of a takeout double, but we haven't seen what partner will do opposite the double.

That is the purpose of this quiz.

The important thing you need to remember is that the responder to a takeout double must show his suit AND his points immediately. Any natural bid is non-forcing.

With 0-7 points, you will bid as low as possible. With 8-10, you will have to jump, and with more, you are going to play a game.

Good luck!

Q: 1 - What do you bid as South?
SouthWestNorthEast

 Your choice:
A: 1 - Don't pass the takeout double, since they would make 1X (remember, you partner does not have Diamonds). That would be really bad.

Bid your Hearts, showing 0-7 points. You are certain of a fit there.

Question 5

  Your Hand
 9 2
 8 6 2
 7 6 4 3 2
 6 3 2

Q: 5 - What do you bid as South?
SouthWestNorthEast
-1DoublePass
?

 Your choice:
A: 1 - You need to bid. You can't pass as they would make their contract. You can't bid 1NT, since that would show 8-10 points.

Without any suit to bid (Diamonds is their suit, and your partner is short in Diamonds), your only option is to bid a suit with only three cards. That's Hearts, since it's at the 1-level. Awful!
