Respond 2NT "The Green Room" by Marti Ronemus

"Wait in the Green Room," my friend said jokingly, "while I finish getting ready." How did that term come about?

The first confirmed use was in the "Diary of Samuel Pepys" where he mentioned going to see the king to ask for money for the Navy, and being "called to the Green Room" to address him.

The first reference having to do with the stage was in 1678. The backstage waiting area was often decorated with a very cheap fabric, baize, which only came in red and green. Thusly, sometimes the Green Room was red.

Now of course, we all know it as the room where the Talent waits to go onto a show.

And our bridge tie in? Today we talk about responding to the very talented 2 No-trump opener. (I know, I know. I'm reaching here, but work with me.) 2 No-trump shows a balanced hand with 20-21 pts. Responding to 2 No-trump is just like 1 No-trump. We use Stayman, transfers and all those goodies. The one difference is the Math... we only need 5-ish pts to respond.

A: 3 No-trump: One might want to leave the stage with a hand this small, but opposite a 20-21 opener, it doesn't look so bad, does it. We've got lots of honorettes, and surely those Diamonds will come in handy.
