"Hangover Cures" Bidding with a Big Hand by Marti Ronemus

I'm writing this on a Sunday morning, and I just came across some information on hangover cures. Fate?

From the time of Ghengis Khan, pickled sheep eyeballs were recommended. Interestingly, this "cure" survives to this day, but with the addition of a glass of tomato juice as a chaser.

Ancient Romans, famous for their debauches, suggested fried canaries, powdered bird beaks, skull dust and dried viper. I think I'd rather have the hangover, thank you.

Modern times, in the Caribbean it's usual practice to put a half-lemon in the armpit of your "drinking" arm. The science-free explanation is to improve hydration.

And, not to sound like your mother, but the obvious cure is to not be there in the first place!! Sort of like bidding... don't over-reach!

 Your choice:
A: 4: With distribution, our hand is worth over 20 pt, so we need to bid game over Pard's 6-9 pts. Just do it. 3 No-trump is very tempting, but with the two doubletons, it might be a little risky. If you're stone cold sober, you might try it.

Q: 2 - South:

 Your choice:
A: 4: When we picked up our hand, our void was of questionable value (powdered bird beak?!), but when Pard bid Spades, we jump. Our initial 15 HCP hand is going to be dummy, so we get 5 pts for the void and game it is. Note that Pard's 1 bid is unlimited. The auction may go further once Pard knows we have 19-21 pts.

Q: 3 - South:
SouthWestNorthEast

?

 Your choice:
A: 3 No-trump: We've got 18 HCP, the tiniest bit short of a game bid, but 2 No-trump just isn't enough. Pard has limited his hand, and has denied interest in a major. He didn't bid 1 No-trump, so his hand is likely to be lumpy in favor of Diamonds.

Q: 4 - South:

?

 Your choice:
A: 3: We aren't excited about No-trump with that singleton Spade. We can't rebid the Diamonds. With our 20 pts, we must force the auction. Bidding 2 wouldn't be forcing, but 3 is. Can't wait to see what Pard, who limited his hand already, will do now.

Q: 5 - South:

 Your choice:
A: 4: Even though Pard's probably got the Clubs covered, we'd prefer to be in Spades with our distribution. Pard's hand is unlimited, so it's up to us to limit our hand.
