Third Seat Opening by Matthias Huberschwiller

When your partner has passed, you might open with a lighter hand in the third position, to fight for the part-score, suggest a good lead, or find a sacrifice.

But you need a good suit to do this, to ensure you won't get partner off to a bad lead.

 9 6 3

Q: 1 - What do you bid as South?
SouthWestNorthEast
--PassPass
?

 Your choice:
A: 1 - In the first or second seat, you'd have to pass, but in the third position, open 1. If your opponents play the contract, you will get partner off to a good lead, and you might play a good partscore.
