"Crime Prevention the Cheap Way" by Marti Ronemus

We know the police are spread thin, and a very creative solution has cropped up. How about this: Often, the Cop on the Block is a life-sized cardboard cutout. The pseudo-cops have been stationed places like intersections where drivers don't pay attention and public transit stops where parked bikes are frequently stolen.

Results are mixed. In Cambridge MA, the Pseudo Cops have hugely reduced bike thefts, but in Bangalore India, the Cardboard Cops were stolen.

Just like bids. Sometimes bidders fake us out, other times they steal our contracts. Let's get to work to prevent that!

 Your choice:
A: 3: Unlike the last hand, this one is a fully-armed SWAT team member. Although it actually has one fewer HCP, the honors are all working, and the hand has shape. This is worth a jump bid.

 Your choice:
A: Double: We weren't big enough to start with a double but now it's the perfect bid. We told our Spade story, now let's show our ability to support anything Pard bids. We can't let this go.

A: Pass: We really have nothing else to say. We're taking a preference to Pard's second suit. He'll be in a seven card fit, but he'll survive.

Q: 5 - South:

 Your choice:
A: 2: This is a perfect reverse. We are promising the first named suit is longer, we are bidding a suit our Pard by-passed, and we've got a strong intermediate hand. This is forcing for one round, and the hand clearly isn't cardboard.

And now it's time for our hand. Will we be sharp enough to avoid arrest?
