"The Perfect Apology" by Marti Ronemus

Some bridge players are convinced they are always right and never have to say they're sorry. If you're among them, read no further. For the rest of us, I've got great news: Researchers at Ohio State University have identified the factors in the perfect apology. They are:

1) Regret. 2) Explanation. 3) Acknowledge Responsibility. 4) Promise to Repent. 5) Offer to Repair the Damage. 6) Ask Forgiveness.

Write those steps down and carry them with you always. Will you need it today as we work through our challenges? We'll see.

And now we start with our quiz.

 Your choice:
A: 2: This is Drop Dead Stayman. Whatever Pard bids, we're going to pass, without saying we're sorry. Better Pard plays in a suit with this. We are worthless in No-trump.

Q: 3 - South:
SouthWestNorthEast

?

 Your choice:
A: 4: We've got a huge hand in favor of Hearts and second round control of every suit. With our hand so chock-full of kings, it stands to reason Pard's points are in aces. Let's find out how many. The nice thing is that we can bail out cheap if we don't like the answer.

Q: 4 - South:

 Your choice:
A: 3 No-trump: There are only two reasons to transfer to a minor (or bid it)... either we are going to drop Pard dead in part-score or go to a minor suit slam. Otherwise, this is perfect in No-trump.

 Your choice:
A: 2: Pard rates to have some Diamond length, and with this moth-eaten hand, we need to pick one of Pard's suits. We certainly would never even consider rebidding the Hearts.
