"Great Aunt Agatha Is Still Here" Day by Marti Ronemus

Full Disclosure: Every holiday you will see in these quizzes is an authentic observance from official sources. EXCEPT this one, made up by my family. Like many families, our Christmas was always a huge extravaganza with relatives from all over gathering, eating, visiting. The Day After Christmas was always torture for us kids, cleaning up, and washing dishes, dishes, dishes. AND for some reason, Great Aunt Agatha was always still there, sitting in the middle of the kitchen drinking left-over eggnog and giving orders. She became a symbol of excess and exhaustion. Nowadays, when the world seems too much, we call each other and say "Great Aunt Agatha Is Still Here" and help arrives. With eggnog.

Our bridge tie-in? Vu-Bridge brings help for your game... without the eggnog. Relax and enjoy. Help is here and we'll go a little easy on you today.

Question 1

  Your Hand
 A K 8 7
 4
 A Q 10 9
 A 10 9 4

Q: 1 - South:
SouthWestNorthEast
111Pass
?

 Your choice:
A: 4: Wow! Pard's Spade bid sent our re-evaluation through the roof! Our 17 HCP (High Card Points) plus all those dummy points, plus the nine-card (or more) trump fit is terrific. We will have limited our hand, and further action is up to Pard.

Expert players would probably cue-bid 4!H, showing good trump fit, Heart shortness and asking partner to start control cue-bids.

Question 2

  Your Hand
 K J 9 4
 Q 9 4 3
 A K J
 K 8

Q: 2 - South:
SouthWestNorthEast
1 No-trumpPass2Pass
2Pass3 No-trumpPass
?

 Your choice:
A: 4: Pard must have four Spades or he wouldn't have bid Stayman. Since he doesn't like our Hearts, he corrected to 3 No-trump. He has game-going values. With our short Clubs, we like a suited contract better.

 A 10 9 4

Q: 3 - South:

 Your choice:
A: 4: We might be a tad light on points, but when we add our distribution points, plus we've got that extra trump. This is a nice candidate for a game bid.

Question 4

 8 4
 A K J 10 4

Q: 4 - South:
SouthWestNorthEast
111Pass
?

 Your choice:
A: 3: We reevaluate after every bid. We started out with 14 HCP plus one extra for long Clubs. Not too exciting. BUT! With a nine-card fit (Pard's overcall promised five) and no wasted honors, let's show 16-18, throwing it back in Pard's lap. Great fun.

Question 5

  Your Hand
 K J 7 5
 A J 10 2
 A J 7
 10 8

Q: 5 - South:
SouthWestNorthEast
--1Pass
1Pass2Pass
?

 Your choice:
A: 3 No-trumps: Pard opened the bidding, so with this hand, we are bound to be in game. The question is where. When Pard rebids his Clubs, we know he's got a six card suit and a reason for not bidding no-trump on his own. We've got all the other suits stopped, so no-trump is a natural bid.
